he keeps me on my toes

"Who put me together?"
"What does God do?"
"What color is the sky?"
"Why do I have eyes?"
"Why do I eat breakfast?"
"Why does Daddy work?"
"Why do we need a house? Why do people need to be warm?"

This is Shepherd within 5 minutes of waking up. As a non-morning person, I usually answer his questions with grunts until after I've been awake for a half hour and had at least one cup of coffee. If you don't give him an answer he likes, he will ask again. And again. And again.

I've resorted to turning his questions around on him: You know the answer. You've asked it before, why DO we eat breakfast? He always knows the answer.

Tonight in the car, on the way to swimming lessons, our conversation on a 5-mile drive went something like this:

"Why are we going to swimming lessons? Why are we swimming inside? Why don't we want to swim in the snow? Why don't we want to be freezing? Why is it winter? Why is winter cold? Why is the sun going to bed? Why is the moon coming up?"

I suggested we listen to some music and informed him that I wasn't going to answer anymore "Why" questions until after he was done swimming.

He thought for a moment and replied.

"Why...not?"

  1. He's too cute!
I hear you about not being a morning person. Lexie talks my ear off from the moment she wakes up!
