reflections on father's day

I hope everyone enjoyed Father's Day. We had grand plans to go to Eat 'n Park and the Zoo, like we've done in the past, but his body had other plans. He woke up unable to move the right side of his face, so I sent him straight to the ER, even though I was certain I knew what was going on, I knew he needed to be checked out. He has been diagnosed with Bell's Palsy, and even though it isn't severe, it is still stressing him out. He can only smile with half his face, he can't wear his contacts right now, and his hearing and taste are affected. The way he has best described it is that it feels like the whole right side of his mouth has been shot with novocaine and it won't go away. The ER doctor gave him a prescription for prednisone to help his facial muscles recover more quickly, but there is no real way to tell if it will last one month or six. So I can see why he is scared.

In other news, I found this picture of my dad on my mom's facebook page yesterday, and I just love it. My kids are so lucky to have such an awesome grandpa. And I'm lucky to have such a great dad. Happy (belated) Father's Day.
